6. CHALLENGE STRUCTURE & SCORING
Micro-Challenges (Trivia & Scavenger Hunts)
The Contest includes 15 Micro-Challenges organized into 4 Blocks. Each Block contains speed-based trivia questions (timers of 5–12 seconds) and one scavenger hunt (no timer). Completing each Block earns points toward unlocking the corresponding Macro Challenge. Points are awarded for completion of Micro-Challenges as indicated on the Website.
Macro Challenges (Content Submission Phases)
There are three themed phases plus one Final Phase. Participants unlock each phase by earning the required number of points — phases are not locked to specific calendar dates. Once a participant has earned sufficient points, they may submit to any unlocked phase at any time during the Contest Period.
- Phase 1 — The Starter Botana: Create a quick appetizer or botana using your Club's featured ingredient.
- Phase 2 — The Shareable Spread: Build a watch-party-friendly dish using your Club's featured ingredient.
- Phase 3 — Upgrade the Classic: Elevate a classic game-day dish using your Club's featured ingredient.
- Final Phase — Flavor of the Game: Create your ultimate game-day dish using ANY La Costeña product. Open to all participants with sufficient points. Determines Grand Prize eligibility. Closes June 19, 2026 at 11:59 PM ET.
Scoring
Points accumulate on a real-time leaderboard throughout the Contest Period. Macro Challenge submissions are evaluated by a panel of judges across three equal categories, each weighted at 33% of the total score:
| Category (33% each) | Video Max | Photo Max | Weight |
|---|---|---|---|
| Product Placement | 200 pts | ~83 pts | 33% |
| Creativity | 200 pts | ~83 pts | 33% |
| Storytelling | 200 pts | ~84 pts | 33% |
| TOTAL | 600 pts max | 250 pts max |
Category Descriptions:
- Product Placement: Visibility and correct use of the Club-assigned La Costeña ingredient. The product must be clearly identifiable (label, can, or packaging shown), actively used in the recipe, and featured more than once in video submissions.
- Creativity: Originality of recipe concept, visual presentation, game-day relevance, and production quality. Safe or generic submissions score lower; unexpected combinations and techniques are rewarded.
- Storytelling: Personal voice and authenticity of narration, cultural or game-day context, narrative arc (for video: setup / cooking / reveal), and overall shareability of the content.
Point Deductions: The following deductions apply to Macro Challenge submissions:
| Deduction | Reason |
|---|---|
| −50 pts | Wrong club ingredient used in Phases 1–3 |
| −40 pts | Product not visible or identifiable — packaging absent or obscured |
| −30 pts | Reused or recycled content — submission appears repurposed from a prior entry |
| −20 pts | Low-effort submission — no recipe structure or generic/stock-looking content |
| −20 pts | Missing promotional usage rights grant or upload guideline violations |
Additional Scoring Notes:
- Base completion points are awarded for Micro-Challenge and Macro Challenge submissions, independent of judging;
- Panel bonus points are awarded on top of base points based on the judging rubric above;
- The Final Phase carries the highest point weight and heavy judge weighting, determining Grand Prize eligibility;
- In the event of an individual leaderboard tie, tiebreakers are determined first by submission timestamp (earlier submission wins);
- For phase prize draws where two or more Clubs are tied in cumulative score, ties are resolved via randomized digital drawing at the Sponsor's sole discretion.
7. SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS
All Macro Challenge submissions must comply with the following:
- Feature at least one La Costeña product (Club-assigned ingredient for Phases 1–3; any La Costeña product for the Final Phase);
